Sigma announced the FP2 on October 23, 2026: a full-frame L-Mount camera that Sigma says is the world’s smallest full-frame body (as of October 2026, by Sigma’s own count). Picture a camera that slips into a jacket pocket yet flips into a cinema camera with one switch on the top plate.
Sigma says the FP2 ships on November 11, 2026, with preorders on its own online store opening October 29. Sigma Corporation of America lists the body at $2,199. It is not on sale yet. We compared Sigma’s published specifications against two compact L-Mount bodies you can look up on Amazon.com today: the original Sigma fp and the Panasonic LUMIX S9. This is a desk comparison of manufacturer information. We have not used the FP2.
Our Pick: Which Compact L-Mount Camera Fits You?
- Sigma FP2 ($2,199 body, per Sigma America) if you shoot both stills and serious video. It moves to a 24.5MP partially stacked sensor, a tilting screen, 6K open gate recording with Apple ProRes RAW, 70GB of internal storage plus about 30% more battery life than the fp. Wait for November 11.
- Sigma fp (about $2,089 on Amazon) if you want the original pocket full-frame concept now. Sigma lists it as discontinued, so remaining stock is limited.
- Panasonic LUMIX S9 ($1,497.99 body on Panasonic’s U.S. store) if you want in-body stabilization in a similarly small L-Mount body for travel or social video.

What Sigma Announced on October 23, 2026
Sigma Corporation, headquartered in Kawasaki, Japan, published its FP2 announcement in Japanese on October 23, 2026. It describes the camera as “Small, Powerful, Adaptable” and as a direct evolution of the original fp. The Japanese release gives the price as open pricing, a release date of Wednesday, November 11, 2026 and preorders on Sigma’s official online shop from 10:00 on Thursday, October 29.
Sigma Corporation of America’s FP2 page shows the body only at $2,199 (lens not included) with “Reserve Online Order” plus “Notify Me When In Stock” buttons. We did not find a lens kit price on Sigma’s official pages, so this article does not quote one.
The headline changes are a 24.5MP partially stacked CMOS sensor, a tilting touchscreen, bird detection added to subject-tracking AF, bursts of up to about 20 frames per second, a bigger battery, 70GB of internal storage plus a top-plate switch that moves between STILL mode and CINE mode, each with its own interface.
FP2 vs fp: What Actually Changed
Sensor. The fp uses a 24.6MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor. The FP2 moves to a 24.5MP partially stacked CMOS sensor. Resolution barely changes. Sigma’s point is readout speed: it says the faster readout greatly reduces rolling shutter distortion, which enables faster bursts plus high frame rate video.
Speed. Sigma rates the fp at about 18 shots per second at its high setting. The FP2 is rated at up to about 20fps for up to 200 frames per burst (JPEG; Sigma lists 180 frames for DNG).
Screen. Both have a 3.15-type, approximately 2.1-million-dot touch LCD. On the fp it is fixed. On the FP2 it tilts up 90 degrees plus down 45 degrees, which makes waist-level and overhead framing much easier on a camera with no built-in viewfinder.
Battery plus storage. Sigma lists about 280 still images per charge for the fp. For the FP2 it lists about 370 images or about 130 minutes of video, roughly 30% more. The FP2 also adds approximately 70GB of internal memory alongside the SDXC slot (UHS-II) plus recording to a portable SSD over USB 3.2.
Size. The bodies are almost identical: 112.6 x 69.9 x 45.3 mm for the fp versus 112.8 x 69.9 x 41.8 mm for the FP2. The FP2 body alone weighs about 388g (446g with battery), against 370g (422g with battery and card) for the fp.
The Cinema Side: 6K Open Gate plus ProRes RAW
The original fp records UHD 4K up to 29.97p in CinemaDNG or H.264. The FP2 goes further. Sigma lists 6K recording at up to 59.94 fps, 6K open gate capture of the full sensor area, Apple ProRes RAW HQ plus ProRes RAW (12-bit, up to 6K 29.97 fps) plus H.264 and H.265 in MOV.
The FP2 also supports L-Log from Leica Camera AG. Sigma claims up to 14.1 stops of dynamic range when shooting 4K full frame in L-Log with 7 stops of highlight headroom at ISO 1250 and above. Its Director’s Viewfinder mode can simulate the framing of cinema cameras such as the ARRI ALEXA 35 plus the Sony VENICE 2 and BURANO.
For sound, Sigma lists 32-bit float audio recording when the optional HU-21 hot shoe unit is attached with Panasonic’s DMW-XLR2 or DMW-DMS1 microphone accessories. Timecode input shares the 3.5mm microphone jack.
What the FP2 Still Leaves Out
Read the specification sheet before you preorder. Sigma lists the shutter type as an electronic shutter only, with flash sync up to 1/50 sec. For stabilization it lists electronic image stabilization for video only. There is no built-in viewfinder: Sigma sells the EVF-21 electronic viewfinder (0.5-type OLED, about 5.76 million dots, attaching via USB-C) plus the LVF-21 LCD loupe separately.
External flash support requires mounting the optional HU-21 hot shoe unit, which Sigma says shares flash communication specs with OM System plus LUMIX.

The Japan Angle: Made in Aizu, Built Around the L-Mount
Sigma is a Japanese company with its headquarters in Kawasaki. Sigma Corporation of America states that, like all Sigma products, the FP2 is fully manufactured and assembled in Sigma’s factory in Aizu, Japan. Its U.S. site sorts the lineup into cameras, lenses plus cine lenses.
The FP2 also leans on two partners in the L-Mount ecosystem. It supports L-Log from Leica Camera AG for grading, while its optional hot shoe and 32-bit float audio path rely on Panasonic LUMIX accessories. That makes the LUMIX S9 a natural cross-shop: same mount, same lenses, a different answer to the question of what a tiny full-frame body should prioritize.
Available Now on Amazon.com: Sigma fp plus LUMIX S9
Sigma fp (Around $2,089 on Amazon)

The fp is the camera the FP2 is built on. It is a flat brick of a body with strap lugs on both sides, a 24.6MP back-illuminated sensor plus UHD 4K CinemaDNG recording. Sigma rates it at about 280 still images per charge with no built-in viewfinder, which are the two gaps the FP2 targets most directly.
The honest downside is that Sigma now lists it as discontinued. On October 27, 2026 the Amazon.com listing showed a new unit at $2,089 from a third-party seller with only one left, which is close to the FP2’s $2,199 body price.
It suits someone who wants this exact camera now, or who needs CinemaDNG specifically. Most new buyers will be better served by waiting for the FP2.

Panasonic LUMIX S9 ($1,497.99 Body on Panasonic’s Store)

The S9 is Panasonic’s answer to the same idea: a compact L-Mount full-frame body for people who travel light. Panasonic lists a 24.2MP full-frame sensor, 5-axis body image stabilization rated at 5 stops (6.5 stops with Dual I.S. 2 lenses) plus open gate recording.
That in-body stabilization is the clearest difference from both Sigma cameras. If you shoot handheld video while walking, or slow shutter stills at night, it matters more than any spec on the FP2 sheet. The trade-off is size: at 126 x 73.9 x 46.7 mm it is wider and taller than either Sigma.
Panasonic’s U.S. store listed the body only at $1,497.99 on October 27, 2026. Amazon.com prices for the S9 vary by color plus seller, so compare before ordering.

Buyer’s Considerations
Budget for the viewfinder. Neither Sigma has a built-in finder. If you shoot in bright sun, plan for the EVF-21 or the LVF-21 when Sigma publishes U.S. accessory pricing.
Stabilization strategy. With electronic stabilization for video only on the FP2, handheld stills depend on stabilized lenses, a fast shutter speed or support. The S9 is the safer pick if you mostly shoot handheld.
Preorder timing. Sigma says preorders on its online store open October 29 with shipping on November 11. Sigma America’s page offers a reserve option plus an in-stock alert.
Summary
The FP2 keeps the fp’s pocket-sized body while fixing its biggest gaps: a tilting screen, a stacked sensor, longer battery life, internal storage plus 6K ProRes RAW. It still skips a mechanical shutter plus in-body stabilization. Wait for November 11 if you want it, buy the S9 if you need stabilization today.
