Picture a birthday dinner: someone blows out the candles, everyone leans in. You want one print to hand over before the night ends. That is the job of a hybrid instax camera. It shoots digitally, lets you pick the frame you like, then prints it on instax mini film.
On October 27, 2026 Fujifilm announced the instax mini Evo 2, the first redesign of its best-known hybrid camera. Should you wait for it, buy the original mini Evo now, or go for the video-focused mini Evo Cinema? We compared the three on Fujifilm’s published specifications plus Amazon.com listings. This is a desk comparison of manufacturer information, not a hands-on review.
Our Pick: Which instax Hybrid Camera Fits You?
- instax mini Evo 2 (shipping expected end of November 2026) if you want the biggest screen in the instax lineup, a touch interface, higher-resolution digital files plus short silent clips recorded before each shot. It is a pre-order product, so it suits buyers who can wait a month.
- instax mini Evo (around $219 on Amazon) if you want the proven version today at the lowest price of the three. The dials, the lens and film effects plus the phone-printing feature are already there.
- instax mini Evo Cinema (around $379 on Amazon) if video with sound matters more than stills. It records 15-second clips with audio, then prints a still frame with a QR code that links back to the clip (the video is uploaded through the instax app).

A price note before you click. Fujifilm Europe set a suggested price of €269.99. When we checked the Amazon.com listing for the Evo 2 on October 30, 2026 it showed the product as currently unavailable with no price displayed. Press coverage such as RedShark News puts the U.S. price at about $289, but we could not confirm it on a Fujifilm U.S. page, so treat it as unconfirmed until the listing goes live.
What Fujifilm Announced on October 27, 2026
FUJIFILM Europe announced the instax mini Evo 2 hybrid instant camera on October 27, 2026, together with an updated instax mini Evo smartphone app. The same day Fujifilm’s global instax site opened a dedicated Evo 2 page. The European release says the camera is expected at the end of November 2026.
Three features are new. The first is a 4.5-inch touchscreen, which the instax site describes as the first touchscreen in instax history. The second is instax Expanded View, which shows the scene around the shooting area on screen so you can frame with more room. The third is instax Immersive Movie, which records a short silent clip leading up to each photo.
What carries over is the formula that made the original popular: a lens dial plus a film dial for 100 effect combinations, a print lever, a selfie mirror, a microSD slot plus smartphone printing through the app.
instax mini Evo 2 (Pre-Order, End of November 2026)

The biggest upgrade is the sensor. Fujifilm lists a 1/2.77-inch CMOS sensor, against the 1/5-inch sensor of the original Evo. Standard stills are saved at 2144 × 2860 pixels. With a microSD card inserted, shots taken with the wide-angle effect or with Expanded View turned off are saved at 3100 × 4128 pixels, which is where the “about 13 MP” figure in press coverage comes from.
The screen grows from 3.0 inches to 4.46 inches with about 1.23 million dots. It is also touch-enabled. Autofocus adds face recognition. Fujifilm rates print output at about 14 seconds, a little quicker than the 16 seconds it lists for the original. Immersive Movie clips are about five seconds at 560 × 992 pixels without audio. They also need a microSD card.
The honest downside is size. At about 330 g plus 43.7 mm thick, the Evo 2 is roughly 45 g heavier and 7.7 mm thicker than the original. Fujifilm also rates it for about 90 prints per charge against about 100. It is also not shipping yet. It suits someone who mostly shoots stills, wants to frame on a large screen plus is happy to wait for launch.

instax mini Evo (Around $219 on Amazon)

The original mini Evo, first announced in 2021, is the reason the Evo 2 exists. Fujifilm lists a 1/5-inch CMOS sensor saving 2560 × 1920 pixels, a 28mm-equivalent F2.0 lens, a 3.0-inch screen plus Bluetooth 4.2 for the app. It weighs about 285 g.
The day-to-day experience is close to the new model: you turn the lens dial plus the film dial, check the result on the screen, then pull the print lever only for the frames you want. It can also print photos from your phone through the instax mini Evo app.
On Amazon.com it showed 4.6 out of 5 from 2,049 ratings when we checked. Amazon’s review summary says buyers praise the print quality, the phone-printing feature plus the retro look, while some feel it is not worth more than $200. The honest downside is the small sensor plus a non-touch 3-inch screen, which is exactly what the Evo 2 changes. It suits anyone who wants a hybrid instax camera now at the lowest price.

instax mini Evo Cinema (Around $379 on Amazon)

The mini Evo Cinema takes a different route. Instead of lens plus film dials it has an Eras Dial with ten looks named after decades from 1930 to 2020. It records video clips of about 15 seconds with sound (AAC audio), then prints a still frame. Fujifilm lists a 1/5-inch sensor of about 5 million effective pixels, a 1.54-inch screen plus a weight of about 270 g.
For stills, the Evo 2 is ahead on paper: a larger sensor, more pixels plus a far larger screen. For video, the Cinema stays the specialist, because Evo 2 clips are about five seconds without audio while the Cinema records sound. Its high-quality video mode at 1080 × 1440 is limited to the 2020 setting according to Fujifilm’s spec sheet.
On Amazon.com it showed 3.7 out of 5 from 23 ratings when we checked, a small sample. Amazon’s summary says buyers like the build quality but give mixed views on image quality. It suits people who want short videos with sound tied to a physical print while accepting the highest price of the three.

All three use the same instax mini film, so film cost per print does not decide this. If stills are the priority, the Evo 2 has the clear spec lead, but it is not on sale yet. If you want to shoot this weekend, the original Evo gives you the same dials plus phone printing for the least money.
If clips with sound are why you are shopping, only the Cinema records audio. Its small screen plus higher price are the trade-offs.
Fujifilm and instax in Japan
Fujifilm was founded in 1934 as Fuji Photo Film, a Japanese maker of photographic film. It launched instax in 1998. The instant line outlasted the decline of roll film to become one of the company’s best-known consumer brands. In Japan, instax cameras are a familiar sight at weddings, school events plus family trips, where a print handed over on the spot is part of the fun.
The Evo line is Fujifilm’s answer to people who like instax prints but do not want to waste film on missed shots. The Evo 2 keeps that idea and puts more of the effort into the digital side: a bigger sensor, a bigger touchscreen plus the wider framing view.
Summary
The instax mini Evo 2 brings a larger sensor, a 4.46-inch touchscreen plus short pre-shot clips to Fujifilm’s hybrid formula, at the cost of extra weight and a launch that is still a month away. The original Evo remains the value pick you can buy today. The Evo Cinema is for video with sound. Check the Evo 2 U.S. price once the Amazon listing goes live.
