Sony just revealed see-through DualSense controllers. Here is what the PS5 Prism Collection costs, when it ships, plus which controller to buy now.
On October 28, 2026 Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the Prism Collection: transparent DualSense wireless controllers plus matching PS5 console covers in three colors. Pre-orders open November 10, 2026. Launch starts February 4, 2027. That leaves a real question for anyone who needs a second controller for the holidays: wait for Prism, buy a standard DualSense today, or step up to the DualSense Edge? We compared the three on Sony’s official announcement, PlayStation product pages plus Amazon.com listings. This is a desk comparison of published information, not a hands-on review.
Our Pick: Which DualSense Should You Get?
- Prism Collection DualSense ($84.99, pre-order from November 10, 2026) if the look is the point. You want a clear shell in Flare Orange, Emerald Green or Graphite Gray, you can wait until February 2027, plus you are fine paying about $10 more than a standard color.
- Standard DualSense in Midnight Black (about $74.95 on Amazon) if you need a controller now. It is in stock today, it has the haptic feedback plus adaptive triggers that PS5 games are built around, at the lowest price of the three.
- DualSense Edge (listed at $199 on PlayStation Direct) if you play competitive shooters or fighting games. Back buttons, swappable stick caps plus saved control profiles are features the standard pad does not have.

A note before you click: the Prism controllers are not on sale yet. Sony says U.S. pre-orders open through direct.playstation.com on November 10, 2026. When we searched Amazon.com on October 31, 2026 we did not find a Prism listing, so this article links only to controllers you can look up today.
What Sony Announced on October 28, 2026
The announcement came in a PlayStation Blog post by Isabelle Tomatis, Vice President of Global Marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment. The Prism Collection covers two products: the DualSense wireless controller plus PS5 console covers. Both come in three transparent colors with a glossy sheen. Sony says the controller has a high-gloss clear finish across its back that shows the internal technology.
Here are the key dates plus prices from the post:
- Colors: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, Graphite Gray.
- U.S. prices: $84.99 for the DualSense controller, $74.99 for the PS5 console covers.
- Pre-orders: November 10, 2026 at 10am local time. In the U.S. that is 7:00am PT through direct.playstation.com.
- Launch: starting February 4, 2027. Sony notes exact dates may vary by country or region.
- Where to buy: the controllers will be sold globally, including at participating retailers. The console covers are sold only direct from PlayStation in the U.S. plus several European countries, with limited quantities at select retailers elsewhere.
The post describes colors plus finishes. It does not mention any hardware change to the controller, so the safe assumption is a new look on the existing DualSense design. It also does not say which PS5 model the covers fit. The covers PlayStation Direct currently sells are listed for the slim model group, so check the model note on the pre-order page before you buy.
Prism Collection DualSense ($84.99, Pre-Order November 10)
The Prism price lands in the same tier as PlayStation’s other special colors. When we checked the PlayStation Direct color page on October 31, 2026, standard colors such as Midnight Black plus White were listed around $74, the Chroma colors around $79, plus the HYPERPOP colors around $84. So the clear shell costs about $10 more than a basic color. That is the full premium, since Sony describes no feature changes.
Who should wait? Someone buying a gift for February, a collector who wants the matching cover plus controller set, or anyone whose current pad still works. Who should not wait? Anyone who needs a second controller for holiday couch co-op. Launch is more than three months away. Stock of special colors can also be uneven: on October 31, 2026 several PlayStation Direct color listings showed “Currently Unavailable” or “Coming Soon.”
The covers are a separate purchase. At $74.99 they cost about as much as a whole standard controller. They are also sold only through PlayStation Direct in the U.S., so you will not find them at Amazon.
Standard DualSense (About $74.95 on Amazon)

The standard DualSense is the controller that ships with every PS5. PlayStation’s product page highlights two features. Haptic feedback uses dual actuators in place of traditional rumble motors. Adaptive triggers change resistance to match in-game actions, such as drawing a bowstring or braking hard. Both only work when a game supports them, which most first-party PS5 games do.
It also works beyond the console. PlayStation says it connects to PC plus Mac by USB-C cable or Bluetooth (Mac needs macOS 11.3 or later). It also works with Android plus iOS phones. On PC, haptics plus adaptive triggers may need a wired USB connection plus game support. Firmware updates on Windows go through the PlayStation Accessories app.
When we checked Amazon.com on October 31, 2026, the Midnight Black listing showed $74.95 and In Stock, with a 4.7 out of 5 star average. That is the practical choice if you need a pad this year.

Want a Color Now? Cosmic Red

If the appeal of Prism is simply “not plain black or white,” an existing color can scratch that itch today. The Cosmic Red listing on Amazon.com showed $74.00 on October 31, 2026, offered by a third-party seller with low stock. It is the same controller inside with an opaque red shell, not a clear one. Check the seller plus condition before you buy.

DualSense Edge (Listed at $199 on PlayStation Direct)

The DualSense Edge is Sony’s pro controller. PlayStation’s product page lists remappable buttons, control profiles you can swap on the fly with the Fn button, plus adjustable stick sensitivity, stick dead zones, trigger dead zones plus vibration intensity.
The box holds two Half Dome plus two Lever back buttons, six stick caps (Standard, High Dome, Low Dome, two of each), a carrying case that lets you charge the controller over USB while it is stored, plus a braided USB cable. For players who want to jump or reload without taking a thumb off the right stick, those back buttons are the main reason to pay more.
Availability is the catch. On October 31, 2026 PlayStation Direct listed the Edge at $199 but showed it as currently unavailable. The Amazon.com listing for the Midnight Black Edge also showed currently unavailable with no price. Watch both listings if you want one before the holidays.

| Can you buy it now? | Pre-order from Nov 10, 2026 | Yes, in stock | Currently unavailable (Oct 31) |
| Launch | From Feb 4, 2027 | On sale | On sale (stock varies) |

The table makes the trade clear. Prism is a cosmetic upgrade you pay about $10 for plus wait three months to receive. The standard pad wins on price plus availability. The Edge is the only one that changes how you play, at more than twice the price.
PlayStation in Japan
PlayStation began in Japan. Sony Computer Entertainment, the company now known as Sony Interactive Entertainment, released the original PlayStation in Japan on December 3, 1994. Many of the console’s best-known franchises still come from Japanese studios.
Special finishes are a regular part of the DualSense lineup. PlayStation Direct already lists Chroma plus HYPERPOP colors next to the plain black plus white models. Prism is the next step in that series, with a see-through shell in place of an opaque one.
Summary
The PS5 Prism Collection gives the DualSense a transparent shell in three colors for $84.99, with pre-orders on November 10, 2026 plus launch from February 4, 2027. Sony describes no hardware changes, so it is a design choice. If you need a controller this year, the standard DualSense is in stock at about $74.95 on Amazon. If you want back buttons plus profiles, the DualSense Edge is the step up once stock returns.
