Picture a small egg under the tree, a kid pressing three buttons, then a tiny creature hatching on screen.
That scene is coming back in a big way this year. Bandai says November 23, 2026 marks exactly 30 years since the first Tamagotchi launched. To celebrate, it has planned a free Tamagotchi Times Square Spectacular in New York City on November 22, plus pop-ups across the U.S. That is why “Tamagotchi Paradise” is one of the toy names people are searching for right now.
But there are three very different Tamagotchi devices on Amazon today. We compared Tamagotchi Paradise, Tamagotchi Uni plus the classic Tamagotchi Original on published specs, Bandai’s official pages along with Amazon.com listings. Here is which one makes the best gift for the 2026 holidays.
Our Pick: The Best Tamagotchi Gift for 2026
- Tamagotchi Paradise (Blue Water) — around $69.99 — the newest model, with a zoom dial that goes from cell to space. Best overall pick.
- Tamagotchi Uni (Pink) — around $140 — a wearable color model with Wi-Fi plus a rechargeable battery. Best for older kids who want updates.
- Tamagotchi Original (Starry Shower) — around $19.99 — the 1997-style pet on a chain. Best budget gift or nostalgia gift for adults.

Why Tamagotchi Is Trending in Its 30th Year
Tamagotchi comes from Bandai, the Japanese toy maker that is now part of Bandai Namco. Bandai Namco’s own company history lists 1996 as the year Tamagotchi launched. The idea was simple: a digital pet in an egg-shaped case that you feed, clean up after and raise.
For the 30th anniversary, Bandai’s U.S. site lists a busy November. There is a free Times Square show on November 22 from 7 PM to 7:30 PM (EST), plus a free pop-up in Duffy Square the same day. FAO Schwarz in New York has a limited-time Tamagotchi area in November. MINISO pop-ups run November 7 to 29 at American Dream in New Jersey plus Barton Creek Square in Austin, Texas. There is even a Roblox collaboration in Main Street RP for all of November.
In Japan, the celebration starts with the Super Tamagotchi Festival in Harajuku plus Shibuya from November 7. So if a child (or a grown-up who had one in the 90s) is asking for a Tamagotchi this year, the timing makes sense.
How to choose: think about age, budget plus how much “tech” you want. Paradise is the fresh, physical-feeling model. Uni is the connected, wearable one. Original is the cheap, simple classic.
Tamagotchi Paradise – Blue Water (Around $69.99 on Amazon)

Tamagotchi Paradise is the newest main-line model in this comparison. According to Siliconera, it launched in Japan on July 12, 2025 then in the U.S. on August 1, 2025. Bandai’s U.S. product page lists a suggested price of $44.99, but the Blue Water color was around $69.99 on Amazon when we checked. That is a real markup, so compare sellers before you buy.
The big new idea is the zoom dial. The device is a little over 3 inches tall, with a round crank on the side. Turn it one way to zoom in to the cell level, where you can clean up germs. Turn it the other way to zoom out to a whole planet. For a child, that turning motion feels like a toy, not a phone app.
Bandai says you can grow over 50 characters in 12 species, with more than 50,000 possible Tamagotchi in total. There are three “Tama Fields”: Land, Water plus Sky. The Blue Water device starts in Water, then the other fields unlock as you care for your pet. You can also connect two devices so the characters meet, which is how breeding works. There is a new “Lab Mode” along with new mini-games too.
In Japan, Paradise is a hit. Bandai’s Japanese Paradise page shows a “Japan Toy Awards 2026 Hit Sales Grand Prize” badge. On Amazon.com, Blue Water holds 4.4 out of 5 stars from 442 ratings. Amazon lists the recommended age as 6 and up.
If you prefer a lighter look, the newer White Glacier color sat around $79.22 on Amazon (4.4 stars from 68 ratings). See the White Glacier version on Amazon.
Downside: it runs on two AAA batteries that are sold separately, so wrap a pack with the gift. Stock of each color also varies on Amazon, so the price can jump.
Tamagotchi Uni – Pink (Around $140 on Amazon)

Tamagotchi Uni is the connected model. Its headline feature is the Tamaverse, which Bandai calls the “Tamagotchi metaverse.” With Wi-Fi, you send the pet you raised into this online world, where it can meet characters raised by other players around the globe.
The Amazon listing says there are 8 Tamaverse Tickets to different places, such as the Angel Festival or the Monster Carnival. Mini-games include a Dance game plus a Fast Food game where you serve hamburgers. You earn Gotchi points to order food delivery or shop at the Tama Mall. Parental controls are available, plus 7 game languages including English, Spanish plus Japanese.
Uni comes with a pink band, so your child can wear it like a watch. The shell is pink with a blue-translucent back. It also has a rechargeable battery with a USB-C cord in the box, so there are no coin cells to replace. That makes it feel closer to a gadget than a keychain toy.
In Japan, Bandai keeps the Uni alive with regular downloads. The Japanese Uni page lists monthly outfit items running from March through October 2026. On Amazon.com, Uni Pink has 4.7 out of 5 stars from 2,618 ratings, the highest score in this group. Amazon lists it for ages 6 and up.
Downside: price plus online dependence. At around $140, it costs about twice as much as Paradise. Bandai’s own pages also warn that Wi-Fi services may end without notice, so some online features may not last forever.
Tamagotchi Original – Starry Shower (Around $19.99 on Amazon)

The Tamagotchi Original is the one many adults remember. The Amazon listing says it brings back the 1997 digital pet with the original generation 2 programming. You feed it, turn the lights on or off, play with it, give medicine, flush after it uses the bathroom, check its health plus discipline it when it acts up.
The game is the classic Number game: guess if the next number is higher or lower. You raise your pet from egg to child to adult. How you care for it decides which of 7 adult characters you get. That simple loop is the whole point. It is easy to learn in a minute.
The Starry Shower version has a dark blue, star-speckled shell with a gold “Tamagotchi” logo plus a gold frame around the pixel screen. It hangs from a metal ball chain, so it clips to a backpack zipper. The CR2032 coin battery is included, so it works right out of the box on gift morning.
This is also the most-rated model here: 4.6 out of 5 stars from 10,119 ratings on Amazon.com. In Japan, Bandai still lists many Original colors and themes on its official site.
Downside: it is basic. There is no color screen, no Wi-Fi plus only one mini-game. The Amazon listing also says ages 8 and up, which is older than the other two.

Pick Paradise if you want the “new” Tamagotchi of the anniversary year. The zoom dial gives younger kids something physical to play with, while no Wi-Fi setup is needed.
Pick Uni if the child is a little older, already has a tablet routine plus would love to wear their pet. The rechargeable battery along with online updates make it the most “gadget-like” choice. Just be ready for the price.
Pick Original for a stocking stuffer, a gift for an adult who grew up in the 90s or a first test to see if your child will actually care for a pet. At around $20, it is a low-risk way to join the 30th anniversary fun.
Summary
